Anodic Aluminum Oxide Films and Boiling Heat Transfer
This community investigates the electrochemical formation of oxide layers on aluminum alloys and their application in enhancing heat transfer during boiling. The work focuses on creating porous, nanostructured surfaces to improve thermal performance and corrosion resistance.
The research centers on anodizing aluminum alloys, specifically 6061 and aerospace-grade materials, to produce anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) films. Key methods involve controlling pore size and structure using sulfuric and oxalic acid electrolytes. These porous nanostructures are then applied to enhance pool and flow boiling heat transfer, a critical function in thermal management systems. The community also examines the corrosion resistance of these oxide films and their use in creating functional surfaces for sensors and capacitors.
The largest share of the community's output is found in aluminium research, accounting for 3.3% of all aluminium research and comprising 573 papers here. Zirconium and copper research also contribute significantly, with 126 and 86 papers respectively.

Recent work continues to refine anodization parameters for controlling pore formation and hydrophobic behavior in AAO nanostructures. New studies also explore the use of these films for thermal management and anti-corrosion applications in 6061 aluminum alloys, as well as the synthesis of nanostructured oxides on stainless steels.
