Layered Zirconium and Titanium Phosphates for Ion Exchange, Catalysis and Coatings
This community develops layered inorganic materials—primarily zirconium phosphate and titanium phosphate—for applications in water purification, chemical catalysis, and protective coatings.
The research focuses on the synthesis and structural modification of zirconium phosphate (ZrP) and titanium phosphate (TiP) nanosheets, nanoplatelets, and nanocomposites. Recurring methods include hydrothermal synthesis, sol-gel processing, and the creation of hybrid materials with organic matrices. Key applications named in the literature include the removal of heavy metal ions and dyes from wastewater, the development of solid acid catalysts for organic reactions, and the formulation of anticorrosive and gas-barrier coatings for metals and food packaging. The work also explores the use of these materials as proton conductors and in electrochemical sensors.
The largest share of the community's output is found in zirconium research, accounting for 1.1% of all zirconium research, and 1,678 papers here. Phosphorus research contributes 1,629 papers, representing 0.5% of that element's tracked literature.
The community comprises 3,860 papers, published most frequently in Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, and Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan.
Recent work includes the development of porous zirconium-phytate coordination polymers for selective lead removal from water, the investigation of wear behavior in polyimide/zirconium phosphate composite coatings, and the synthesis of non-molecular phosphonates of thorium and cerium.
