Magnesium Alloy Deformation, Microstructure and Mechanical Behavior
This community investigates how magnesium alloys deform under stress and how their internal crystal structure evolves during processing, with the goal of improving their strength and ductility for structural applications.
The research focuses heavily on specific alloy systems, particularly AZ31 and AZ91, examining how they respond to hot deformation, extrusion, and rolling. Key topics include dynamic recrystallization, grain refinement, and texture evolution, which are analyzed to understand the relationship between processing conditions and final mechanical properties. The work frequently employs crystal plasticity modeling and finite element simulations to predict deformation behavior. While the primary focus is magnesium, the community also includes significant work on aluminum alloys and the application of these materials in aerospace and automotive sectors, where weight reduction is a critical driver.
The largest share of the community's output is found in magnesium research, accounting for 7.3% of all magnesium research tracked, and 11,178 papers here. Aluminium research contributes 1,120 papers, representing 0.8% of that element's total research.
This community comprises 21,032 papers, published primarily in the Journal of Magnesium and Alloys, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, and Materials Science and Engineering A.
Recent work continues to focus on the microstructural evolution of magnesium alloys during advanced manufacturing processes, including laser powder bed fusion and additive manufacturing, as well as the development of high-temperature oxidation resistance and biodegradable alloy systems.
