Arsenic Contamination, Removal, and Health Risk Assessment
This community investigates the presence of arsenic in water and soil, the methods for removing it from drinking water, and the assessment of health risks associated with human exposure.
The work centers on the chemistry of inorganic arsenic species, particularly arsenic trioxide and arsenic(III), and their behavior in groundwater, soil, and rice crops. A significant portion of the research focuses on remediation technologies, specifically adsorption and treatment processes to remove arsenic from contaminated water sources. Concurrently, the community addresses the toxicological mechanisms of arsenic exposure, including oxidative stress and bioaccumulation, to evaluate health risks for populations relying on affected water supplies. The recurring themes link environmental contamination directly to human health outcomes, with specific attention to the speciation of arsenic and its interaction with other heavy metals in natural and industrial settings.
Arsenic research accounts for 56.4% of the community's output, representing 20,177 papers. Iron and manganese also appear in the literature, with 396 and 314 papers respectively, reflecting the co-occurrence of these elements in groundwater systems.
The community comprises 24,134 papers, published primarily in the Journal of Hazardous Materials, Science of The Total Environment, and Chemosphere.
Recent work continues to focus on arsenic removal using advanced materials like metal-organic frameworks, the assessment of heavy metal risks in aquaculture and drinking water, and the immobilization of arsenic in agricultural soils.
