Ironmaking, Steelmaking, and Vanadium Recovery from Metallurgical Slags
This community focuses on the metallurgical processes for producing iron and steel, with a significant parallel stream dedicated to extracting vanadium from the industrial waste products of those processes.
The work centers on blast furnace and electric arc furnace operations, direct reduction of iron ore, and the sintering of pellets. A major portion of the research addresses the recovery of vanadium from vanadium slag and titanium-bearing residues using acid leaching, roasting, and solvent extraction techniques. The community also investigates nickel laterite processing, the behavior of molten steel, and the development of refractory materials such as magnesium aluminate spinels. Methods include numerical simulation, kinetic analysis, and the optimization of reduction and separation mechanisms to improve yield and process efficiency.
The largest share of the community's output is found in iron research, accounting for 2.1% of all iron studies, with 7,729 papers in this group. Vanadium research also represents a significant portion, comprising 2.8% of all vanadium studies, with 2,846 papers here.
The community comprises 22,648 papers, publishing primarily in ISIJ International, Tetsu-to-Hagane, and the Journal of Iron and Steel Research International.
Recent work continues to focus on low-carbon sintering, vanadium extraction from shale and slag, and the extraction of nickel and cobalt from laterite ores for battery applications.
