Microstructure and Deformation Mechanics of Aluminum Alloys
This community investigates how heat treatment, casting, and plastic deformation alter the internal grain structure of aluminum alloys to control their strength, durability, and resistance to corrosion.
The work centers on manipulating the microstructure of aluminum alloys through processes such as hot deformation, heat treatment, and severe plastic deformation. Researchers study how these processes influence dynamic recrystallization, grain refinement, and the evolution of mechanical properties like fatigue crack growth and corrosion resistance. Specific alloy systems, including Al-Zn-Mg-Cu, Al-Mg-Si, and Al-Li, are frequently analyzed to understand the relationship between processing parameters and final material performance. The research also addresses the recycling of secondary aluminum and the development of alloys for specific applications, such as electrical conductors and structural components.
The largest share of the community's output is found in aluminium research, accounting for 7.5% of all aluminium research, and 10,503 papers here.
The community comprises 39,745 papers, publishing most frequently in Materials Science and Engineering: A, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, and Materials Science Forum.
Recent work continues to focus on the microstructural evolution of aluminum alloys, with specific studies on dynamic recrystallization in Al-Zn-Mg-Cu and Al-Mg-Si systems, grain refinement mechanisms, and the mechanical properties of alloys designed for electrical conductors and structural applications.
